Melissa Navia is an actor, writer, and stand-up comedian with a fiercely innate penchant for short hair. She plays the banjo and believes combat boots are appropriate always. Girl With Short Hair is a collection of her stories, memories, and adventures, drawn from a lifetime spent thwarting categorization and challenging society’s fixation on boxing people in to avoid figuring them out. It is a space that celebrates not fitting in, never giving up, and forever rocking whatever makes you (and your face) happy.
Her extensive indie film & TV experience over the last decade has afforded her the opportunity to play a myriad of singular characters, including roles on Billions (Showtime), where she played an astronaut bound for a life on Mars, and Dietland (AMC), where she played a vigilante on a mission of retribution for crimes against women. She is always looking for new ways to create challenging work that tells underrepresented stories and demands an audience’s attention. Melissa recently made her Off-Broadway debut in the world premiere of Bundle of Sticks at INTAR Theatre. And then a pandemic hit. The play, along with the rest of Broadway, had to close – far too soon – but it was a magical moment in time. For more of Melissa’s work: melissanavia.com & linktr.ee/mcnavia.
